울티마 시리즈의 첫 번째 작품. 원래 제목은 그냥 Ultima였으나, 속편들이 줄줄이 나오며 이 작품을 울티마 1이라 부르게 된다. 1980년에 애플 II로 개발해 1981년에 California Pacific Computers를 통해 발매되었다. 당시는 오리진 시스템즈란 회사가 세워지기 전이다. AppleSoft BASIC으로 작성된 게임이다
